In my opinion, this was the golden age of British racing, and close inspection of the cards on offer on Saturday 23 October 1982 offer compelling evidence to support my view. The Futurity Stakes at Doncaster was the feature race of the day, but the jumping cards at Newbury and Stratford were an absolute gallery of superstars of the past, present and future. Huntingdon and Newton Abbot offered lower grade, but equally interesting sport too, on what was an absolute feast of a Saturday.
