Televised cards at Epsom, Newcastle and Ripon were backed up by the then usual Bank Holiday Monday plethora of meetings. Chepstow, Wolverhampton and Warwick on the flat, plus jumping at Newton Abbot, Huntingdon, Plumpton, Cartmel and Southwell made for a very busy day.

As a little quiz question for you. An incident at a meeting on that day caused a then relatively unknown jockey to be suspended for 2 months. Who was it, and why?
